When I finished the Big Baby (Doll) Collection, I decided that I would try to adapt a few of those patterns for real Babies! The Christening Gown is my first pattern. It includes the following sizes - Premie/newborn, 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, and even 12-18 months. The gown has a very full ruffle at the base, a delicate heart motif along the top of the ruffle and again at the bodice and on the sleeves. The sleeves also have full ruffles, and are set-in. The gown buttons at the back. The front and back of the gown are worked separately. For knitters who prefer using a circular needle to avoid side seams, instructions are also provided. The matching bonnet has a full ruffle and the same heart motif. It is begun in one piece, then each side is worked, and finally the back. The ties are worked separately and sewn to the bonnet. The yarn used for the samples shown was (left) 100% Egyptian cotton and (right) a washable baby wool. They both had a soft, pretty drape. |
